(A special project of the National Thirteenth Five-Year Water Plan)
“Development of multiscale monitoring system and studies on runoff forecasting technology in sponge city project, implemented by the Beijing Hydrology Center, has been ongoing since 2018. A pilot demonstration project has been initiated for the construction of sponge city in the subcenter of Beijing City, which was selected as a demonstration area for the development of sponge space optimization technology to reduce runoff and pollution. An optimal layout scheme from the perspective of cost-benefit has been proposed for the construction area, the administrative office district, and the new district of the sponge city. This scheme is being developed in conjunction with a scheme for the implementation of the sponge city and identification of the engineering characteristics entailed in the construction. A feasibility study of drainage discharge equipment under different conditions has been completed, and several site surveys of representative areas within the project site have been carried out. The monitoring sites will be determined following completion of the construction of the pilot site, finalization of the data arrangement, construction of typical rainwater, and flood models at different spatial scales. The project report has been submitted to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Technical Supervision, which can provide effective support for the evaluation and scientific management of sponge city construction.
