(A key project supported by the Beijing Science and Technology Commission)
This project, which is being implemented by Beijing Institute of Water Science and Technology, is aimed at resolving the contradictions that exist between regional drainage systems and watershed flood diversion systems. The project entails the systematic construction and management of a sponge city and the demonstration of how rainwater can be comprehensively utilized, with simulation analysis and evaluation conducted at the watershed/regional scales. Through the quantification of urban flood disaster risk by using infiltration, retention, storage, purification, uses, and drainage as well as their combinations, the project will provide important scientific and technological support that can contribute to the reduction of urban flood disasters in Beijing City and improve the ecological health of the water environments.
